A few months ago, I designed a set of coasters exclusively for Made in Bristol, which were inspired by some of Bristol’s unique flora and fauna, some of which can only be found in and around the Avon Gorge.
I was pleasantly surprised to see them in the recent issue of B24/7, alongside an interview with Bryony Morgan, founder and pioneer of Drawn in Bristol and Made in Bristol.
You can pick up a set from Paper Scissors Stone in Quakers Friars, Bristol.
This month, I reconnected with the team behind Shipshape magazine, a quarterly publication which showcases upcoming goings on in Bristol, with a focus on the city’s historic harbourside. I illustrated the winter-themed cover, which was a lot of fun to draw, and answered a few questions inside the mag. You can also find my map illustration if you flick to the centre spread!
At the end of the summer, I produced some new work inspired by fortune telling, divination and folklore, which was on display at the Here Gallery in Stokes Croft.
Among the illustrations were two zodiac signs, Gemini and Leo. I hope to add to these and make a full set, so let me know if there’s a particular sign you’d like to see!
I love working with Bristol clients, so I was delighted when St. George’s concert hall asked me to illustrate their latest brochure cover to promote their autumn/winter season. The design needed to capture the excitement of going to an evening concert in the chill of winter, so I hope I have achieved this!
St. George’s kindly did a little interview with me on their blog, which you can read here.
Earlier in the year, I was invited to contribute to a feature on botanical drawing for Digital Arts, and was delighted to appear alongside some really talented illustrators who I have long admired.
I talked a little bit about my working process, tools of the trade, and choice of contemporary colours. You can read the full tutorial here.
I was stoked to see my logo for Aux Deux Epis appear on baker and pâtissier duo Holly and Cristophe’s van this week! I’m about ready to book my ticket to the Loire Valley, roll up my sleeves and learn how to make beautiful artisan breads.
I’m just about to start my fifth map design for History Revealed magazine, a new title from Immediate Media, which is brimming with historical biographies, forgotten photographs and fascinating facts.
I have the enviable job of producing illustrated maps which document famous historical journeys of caricatured heroes and villians, and unusual characters, who have either triumphed or perished in their lofty pursuits.
So far, we’ve covered Ernest Shackleton, Butch Cassady and the Sundance Kid, Jack Kerouac and an unfortunate duo, who are bitterly defeated by the Australian outback (not out yet!).
Thanks to the lovely folks at The Artworks, my portfolio will be showing at the London Book Fair this week. Head over to the Children’s Hub area to have a wander through their amazing gallery space, featuring work from some really talented illustrators who I was thrilled to meet at the drinks reception yesterday. You’ll also notice Lucy Davey’s beautiful typography on the gallery walls!
