No junk mail, please

Posted on: June 30th, 2013 by Dawn

As much as it saddens me to do so, after wading through over 900 spam comments, I’ve had to restrict commenting on my blog.

So if you would like to get in touch with me about any of my posts, or about anything at all, and you’re struggling to leave a comment on my blog, please never hesitate to e-mail me or drop me a line, and I’d be more than happy to chat with you!

Reasons to be cheerful #2

1. Introducing The Print Shop…

An exciting collaborative pop-up shop, bringing together print-makers from Drawn in Bristol and Spike Print Studio and international guests, The Print Shop is coming to Quakers Friars on 24 July 2013. Not only will you be able to purchase unique hand-made prints, products and gifts, there will be workshops and live screen-printing demos for you to get involved in! I am very honoured to have been invited to the first installation of The Print Shop, so watch this space for more news, or visit the Facebook page.

2. Meet Thérèse Desqueyroux…

Although a fairly bleak depiction of 20th Century life in Provincial France, I was pretty excited to discover that Audrey Tautou had a new film out (while we wait impatiently for the UK release of Michel Gondry’s much anticipated Mood Indigo!). This is a captivating character study of some very unique, strong-minded individuals, based on the novel by François Mauriac with the title character captured beautifully by Audrey Tautou. Showing at Bristol’s Watershed cinema now.

3. Read all about it…

The beautiful new vintage shop Lark Vintage is opening on Sunday 7 July on Paul Street in Frome, which forms part of the beautiful historic Catherine Hill, a cobbled street bursting with gorgeous independent (and very reasonably priced!) boutique shops. This shop promises to be a visual delight, full of vintage gems and has already been publicly acknowledged and praised by the model, fashion designer and friend of the shop, Pearl Lowe. I have been very involved with the design and marketing of the shop, so I’m very excited to see it all come together. I’m sure there will be some wine in it for those of you who wish to join me!

4. New studio neighbours!

Although it’s always sad to see people leave the Drawn in Bristol studio, I’m very happy to welcome two new lovely desk neighbours to my studio corner, the sublimely talented pencil sketcher Tom Bonson, and creator of beautiful mono-prints Sophie Rae (whose lovely chicken illustration is pictured above). Welcome guys!!

5. Guest blogger…

I will be guest-blogging (for the forseeable future) for the Drawn in Bristol blog, alongside fellow illustrator and collective member Bett Norris. Take a look over here to see our first posts, and be sure to bookmark the page!

6. Autumnal tea party…

I have just finished working for the incredibly lovely people at Dust PR, on a new invite design for their new kids ranges, which has been lots of fun. More on this soon!

7. All aboard!

In a couple of weeks time, the Drawn in Bristol crew will be drawing the iconic Bristol Ferry Co. boats in exchange for a jolly social along the harbourside, in one of their fantastic boats. More to follow!

8. Greetings!

I am currently developing a greeting cards range which I can’t wait to share with you all. Tell me what you would like t see!

9. In the Croft…

There’s a rather fantastic mural on the ever-changing exhibition wall of Jamaica Street at the moment, outside the PRSC head-quaters, with a lovely quote from Ghandi. Check it out if you’re in the area!

Dawn in Bristol

Hooray! After being a Drawn in Bristol studio member for over a year (blimey, where did that go?), I have kindly been welcomed into the almighty family that is the Drawn in Bristol collective. Drawn in Bristol promotes local illustration, profiles Bristol image-makers, curates fantastic exhibitions and launches pop-up shops around the city. All of the Drawn in Bristol folk I have met are entirely wonderful, and very talented, so go and feast your eyes on their work here.

I also provided this silly image of my work materials for my profile:

Sea, cliffs, sun

Spent a blissful day in a place of extreme natural beauty yesterday for my favourite person’s birthday. Above is the t-shirt I hand-printed for him. The design is a sort of mock-botanical diagram of a blackberry plant, with different cross-section illustrations, and a bumble bee for good measure.

I’m sorely tempted to print some more t-shirt designs. What would you like to see?

Wedding stationery

I am very happy to say that my older sister is getting married to a very lovely man next year, and they kindly agreed to let me design their save the date cards!

If you would like a quote for bespoke wedding stationery (whether that’s save the dates, invitations, or other hand illustrated goods), or you know someone who might, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me and I’d be only too happy to help!
