I’ve been wanting to share some illustrations that I did for a city map in the latest issue of Shipshape magazine, and I thought, what better way to share them with you than to quiz some brave Bristolians! Some of these will be easier than others, but have a go and see if you can identify these different Bristol landmarks and hotspots. Leave a comment below, if you’re feeling confident! I’ll post the answers shortly.

If you didn’t go to the Bristol Artist Book Event this weekend, you were missing out! I was lucky enough to step in as a stall holder for LOAf magazine, alongside LOAf’s editor, the lovely Rosie Faragher. LOAfman also made an appearance, taking (eating) questions penciled by enthusiastic perusers of the stall, and some of you had a go at our matchbox games.

There was almost too much to take in; so many beautiful artefacts and friendly book aficionados. Among my favourites were our neighbour, Badly Made Books, who needed a lot of convincing that his books really were quite superb, Katie Green, the super talented lady behind the very charming Green Bean zine, The Tiny Pencil, who I had great pleasure in talking to, Reassemble, an ambitious print-making duo of one-of-a-kind books, and illustrator Ben Wright. Oh, and of course our friends at the Here Gallery and No Guts for Glory.

I made a little zine especially for the occasion (cover pictured above, excerpts below!), which was a lot of fun.

Drawing on the train…not as hard as you might think!

Reasons to be cheerful #1

1. good reads…

I have a brand new set of shelves in my studio! Can you recommend me any good design or illustration books?

2. not to be missed…

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is on the iPlayer! I’m relatively new to Wes Anderson, but I’m already a huge fan. I thought this film was marvellous.

3. all the way from iceland…

Sigur Ros have announced a European tour, including several UK dates! I’ve got my ticket, get yours here.

4. from the woods…

After its London debut, the WildWood show is having a second showing for all of you Bristol folk at the Grain Barge this month. I am exhibiting a few woodland themed pieces with some very talented ladies. Definitely worth a look! More info here.

5. all aboard!

The new issue of Bristol’s harbourside mag Shipshape came out this month, and I had the pleasure of illustrating a city map for the centre spread. It’s packed full of interesting articles about Bristol, Bristol people and brilliant what’s on guides. And it’s free! Pick up a copy.

6. spring is here!

I know I talk about this a lot, but it’s warm!! At long last! I took a sneaky trip to the beach last week to celebrate.

7. wedding favours…

Two of my favourite people in the world are getting married in the next couple of weeks, and I’ve been tasked with making three lovely prints to give to guests as wedding favours…more on these soon!!

8. more good reads…

Head over to B.A.B.E (Bristol Artists Book Event) at the Arnolfini on Saturday 20 April for a whole host of goods from Bristol artist bookmakers. I will be helping LOAf with their stall, so come and say hello!

9. seeing red…

RED is a new exhibition soon to be coming to Bristol’s Tobacco Factory from Wednesday 1 May to Monday 13 May to raise money for the Red Cross. It will feature lots of talented Bristol illustrators, who have produced work around the theme of ‘red’. More info very soon!

If you go down to the woods today

I recently created this fun invite for the incredibly nice people at Dust PR in London. These foxy animals were hoping to get their hands (or should that be claws?) on some exciting new pieces by Barbour, KR3W, Supra, Rokit Vintage and many more at this week’s collection preview.

…Spring?

I’m definitely having one of those days where my mind doesn’t seem to be connecting with my pen! I think this silly little drawing was a result of the sun finally showing its face over Bristol this morning. I feel like cracking open the Pimms (shame it’s only 8°C…never mind!).
